Mercer County Jail Roster
The official Mercer County Sheriff's Office Jail Inmate Search is the main public roster for the Mercer County Detention Facility. It is free, does not require a login, and supports searches for active, inactive, and active-last-24-hours inmates. The sheriff homepage describes the tool as a way to see current and past inmates and sign up for release notifications. The roster is the best starting point when a person has just been arrested by the sheriff's office, Celina police, village police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, or another local agency that books into the county jail.
Mercer County inmate records on the jail roster are booking and custody records. They are not the final court file. The roster disclaimer states that a Certificate of Arrest is provided by the arresting agency and may not reflect actual court charges, indictments, or final disposition. For filed charges, use the Mercer County Clerk of Courts CourtView portal for Common Pleas cases and Celina Municipal Court CaseLook for municipal, traffic, and misdemeanor matters. For booking photos, the focused explanation is on the Mercer County jail mugshots page.
Use Mercer County Inmate Roster
The roster works best when the search starts broad, then narrows. Last name alone is often enough. First name and booking-date range help when names repeat or when the date of arrest is known. Active is the normal current-custody filter. Active - Last 24 Hours is useful for recent bookings, and Inactive helps when the person may have been released or transferred.
- Open the official sheriff jail inmate search and choose the status that fits the question.
- Enter the last name first. Add first name only if the result list is too broad.
- Use From Booking Date and Thru Booking Date when checking a known arrest window.
- Open the full name or View Details link to see the inmate profile.
- Write down the booking date, booking agency, case number, court, bail amount, and bond type before calling the jail or court.
- Use VINELink for release notifications and JailATM for deposits only after confirming the person is still in custody.
The official search form is visible in the screenshot captured from the sheriff roster.

The roster's field set is simple, which makes the status filter important when switching between current custody and past booking checks.

Mercer Inmate Record Fallbacks
The roster can lag a new arrest or miss details that require a records request. For recent bookings, call Mercer County Corrections at 419-586-5753 or contact the sheriff's office at 4835 State Route 29, Celina, OH 45822. The public records contact listed by the sheriff is 419-586-5770, with the request address at the same State Route 29 sheriff complex. The public request hours listed in the research are Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:00, excluding holidays.
The sheriff public records request form is the documented path for booking records, incident reports, accident reports, and other jail-related records that are not visible online. The form asks for requester details, record type, occurrence date, location, report number, involved party, and added information. The page states that ORC 149.43(B)(5) does not require a person to use the form or provide name and address, but anonymous remote handling may require an in-person request if no contact details are given.

County State Federal Inmates
Mercer County inmate records split by custody system. The jail roster covers the county detention facility and prior county bookings. The ODRC offender search covers sentenced Ohio prison inmates, Adult Parole Authority supervision, released offenders, and violators at large. A person can appear on the Mercer jail roster before sentencing and then disappear after transfer to ODRC.
Federal and immigration records follow separate channels. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. Federal pretrial detainees may be in U.S. Marshals custody and housed by contract, which may require contacting the Southern District of Ohio rather than BOP. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System requires an A-number and country of birth or biographical search data. ICE ODLS is not a Mercer jail roster and does not provide county booking photos.
| Need | Search Channel | Best Clue |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail custody | Sheriff inmate search | Active status and View Details profile. |
| Past local booking | Sheriff inactive search or records request | Name, booking date, agency, report number. |
| Sentenced Ohio prison | ODRC offender search | Name, offender number, county of commitment. |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator | Register number or full name, age, sex, race. |
| ICE custody | ICE ODLS | A-number or exact biographical data. |
Booking Process in Mercer County
Official sheriff correction pages describe booking as a practical intake sequence. Most bookings take 45 to 60 minutes and are normally handled by two officers. Steps include booking and medical questions, property inventory, logging into the jail register, mug shot, fingerprints, shower, jail property, and placement in intake for observation, normally for the first eight hours before movement to a housing unit.
That timing explains why a very recent arrest may not appear right away. Jail staff also monitor inmates around the clock, dispense medication, serve meals, escort inmates to attorney and medical visits, manage recreation and programs, handle clothing and bedding changes, inspect cells, pass commissary, prepare inmates for court, set up transports, and process releases. The sheriff page lists a minimum of three officers per shift for those functions.
Mercer Jail Visitation Records
Mercer County Detention Facility public visitation is video-based and by appointment. Visitors schedule through CIDNET. Appointments may be scheduled up to seven days ahead and no less than 24 hours ahead. On-site lobby visits have no cost, while off-site cost is set by CIDNET. All public visits are monitored and subject to recording, and visitors may not use extra devices to record or duplicate a visit.
| Setting | Days and Hours | Length | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-site video lobby | Tuesday 8:00-11:00 a.m.; Saturday 1:00-4:00 p.m.; Sunday 6:00-9:00 p.m. | 20 minutes | 2 visits per inmate per day; 1 visit per visitor per day; 4 per inmate per week; 2 per visitor per week. |
| Off-site video | Daily 8:00-10:50 a.m.; 1:00-4:00 p.m.; 6:00-10:00 p.m. | 20 minutes | No daily inmate or visitor visit limit shown; computer or phone with high-speed internet and webcam required. |
On-site visitors should arrive ten minutes early, sign the register, show photo ID, and bring only wallet, car keys, photo ID, and birth certificates for minors into the lobby. Phones, purses, smoking materials, drinks, and similar property are not permitted. Visitors are subject to search, and no-contact orders or restraining orders bar visits.
Contact Money and App
Mercer inmate profiles include a Deposit Money link to JailATM. The 2022 sheriff annual report also includes commissary revenue charts, confirming commissary operations. The public sources inspected did not publish JailATM fees, jail kiosk rules, phone-deposit options, commissary order limits, or indigent-kit rules, so fee details should be checked with JailATM and jail staff before sending funds.
No official Mercer mail-rules page was located in the inspected sources. Do not assume postcard-only, mail-scanning, or publisher-only rules. Confirm current mail format and restrictions with corrections at 419-586-5753 before mailing anything. The sheriff also offers the Mercer County Sheriff's Ohio mobile app, with store pages for Apple and Google. The app is described as a communication tool for tips, public-safety news, notifications, current inmate list, active warrants, sheriff sales, and related tools. It is not for emergencies.
Note: Confirm custody with Mercer County Corrections before sending money, scheduling a visit, or relying on a projected release field.
